My body’s its own story
Each chapter has a stamp
Some of them were accidents
Some left my red cheeks damp
That one is from the schoolyard
I was only eight
He wound me up, and then I flew
Until the ground was scraped
This happened on the school bus
I barely heard a thump
I lost my vision temporarily
And it only left this lump
The next scar is on the inside
I got it from a friend
He was gone when I came to
That one’s been hard to mend
This one is from a table
The corner tore my skin
What’s worse I left it broken
Which I’m told’s the greater sin
This one’s from my conscience
This one is my own voice
This one is my favorite
Because this one was my choice
